FreeFileSync Version History Guide
This page does not mirror the developer’s complete release archive. It explains how Windows users should evaluate an update and points to the primary release source.
Use the current release when possible
Current releases contain compatibility and reliability fixes. Before updating a production backup workflow, save the working configuration, record the installed version, and run a controlled test against disposable folders.
Do not use an old release as a permanent fix
Rolling back can help isolate a regression, but old versions may lack later bug fixes. If a current release changes behavior, preserve logs and a minimal test configuration and consult the developer’s current release notes.
Configuration and data compatibility
Keep copies of GUI and batch configuration files before an update. A configuration backup is not a backup of synchronized data. Maintain an independent recovery copy of the actual files.
Release sources
Use the official developer release archive for exact version numbers, dates and downloadable historical files. Avoid third-party archives that do not provide provenance.
