Is FreeFileSync a backup program?

It compares and synchronizes folders. It can be part of a backup workflow, but synchronization alone is not a complete historical backup. Use versioning or another independent recovery copy.

Which mode should beginners use?

There is no universal mode. Update usually avoids deleting extra destination files, but it still requires review. Mirror can propagate deletions. Two Way is designed for changes on both sides and uses a database.

Is it free for business use?

Do not assume the standard edition is licensed for every context. The developer’s current FAQ explains personal, Donation and Business editions. Organizations should check the current official terms.

Does FileDrop deliver the file?

Yes. Actual download controls on this website call the configured FileDrop delivery mechanism. This site independently distributes the file and is not the official FreeFileSync website.

Can it copy open files?

Applications can lock files or keep data in an inconsistent state. Close the owning application or use an application-aware backup method when consistency matters.

Can I automate jobs?

Yes, after a GUI configuration has been reviewed and converted to a batch job. Test it manually before using Task Scheduler or RealTimeSync.
